Travelling for an April birthday huh? Where’s our invite? Hmph. Anyway. Every good trip needs a plan… maybe an itinerary but certainly a solid, well thought out plan. There are things to consider when travelling for April birthdays, as there is with every month. We already have our guide on the best Gifts for April Birthdays and now we’re looking at the travel. We are here to just remind you of a few things that you may have missed.
Here’s to happy planning and a marvellous adventure.
Beware the Easter Holidays.
I know this sounds obvious, but if you are planning on any sort of trip to celebrate a birthday in Easter, you must be aware of the school holidays that are going to cut into at least some of April. Not only do you have that to contend with, but early May Bank Holiday may also slightly nip onto your schedule. The kids being of school means two things, hiked up prices and bigger crowds, pretty much regardless of where you are going.
In our experience the price hikes generally are there all month, so you may consider doing your travelling a little earlier. Any later than April is fraught with danger though, you’ve got May Bank Holidays and then you’re basically into summer, so the chances of a deal afterwards are fairly slim.
Is it a good time to nip abroad?
Don’t get me wrong, it is not going to be scorching hot weather on the Med in April, but that’s no reason to not get a quick getaway for your birthday. With temperatures still in the mid to late teens in Spain, Portugal and Greece, this might be the ideal time for a city break before the normal influx of summer tourism. I for one would not want to walk around Barcelona in the blazing heat, but a nice 15 degree stroll around a city? Yeah, go on then.
If you’re staying at home, don’t bank on the weather.
Sounds really obvious, but even in April camping can be sort of risky. If you’re looking for a nice relaxing break then I would maybe opt for accommodation with built-in heating as a minimum. Spring is nice and all, but it can be miserable on the odd occasion.
It’s a romantic thought to be huddled in a tent in the rain, but the reality isn’t normally that lovely. If you and your travelling buddies are happy with the risk of rain, then go nuts. Otherwise, just make sure there’s a failsafe to avoid having to bail out early! Maybe somewhere like Center Parcs would be ideal for this time of year. Enough indoors and outdoors to make sure you’re entertained regardless of the weather.
Let your destination know ahead of time that you’re celebrating a Birthday
I say this on all my birthday travel plans, but wherever you are going, e-mail ahead of time to let them know that you’re celebrating a birthday.
It takes just a minute and a lot of places will take notice, and even if they just leave a cute note for your April Birthday or even leave a cake in your accommodation, it’s those tiny touches that make your break even more special.
Whatever your plans when travelling for April birthdays, remember the most important thing is to have fun. Make sure that your birthday boy or girl is going to have the best birthday ever and that all the guests love every moment. Itineraries are good sometimes, and other times you can just wing it. Our tips are just to help prevent a complete disaster! Anything we’ve missed? Let us know in the comments!
