Bloggers Behind The Screens: Featuring A Rose Tinted World

standard May 1, 2019 Leave a response
Journals and Stationery representative of the blog A Rose Tinted World

Bloggers Behind the Screens is a monthly interview series, where fellow bloggers come together to answer a series of questions on a specific theme. This is a chance to get acquainted with a whole range of bloggers, some of whom you may not have encountered before, and learn a little more about them!

This month, we’re talking to bloggers about the very thing that makes them bloggers. Their blogs. I’m super excited to be hosting an interview with the lovely Jo at A Rose Tinted World and finding out all about her blog, including her favourite posts, her likes and dislikes about being part of the blogger community and her hopes for the future. If you want to find out more about Jo, you can check out links to all of her social media and her blog at the bottom of the post. You can also find out about all of the participants in Bloggers Behind The Screens, with links to all their posts!

When did you start blogging and why?

I started blogging in July 2018. I have taken  a hiatus from work for lots of reasons. And just decided that I wanted to fill my time with something new. I’d followed a blogger called Emma Drew on Facebook for a while, she did a course on blogging, and I decided to give it a try.

How did you come up with the name for your blog?

I try to see the good in all situations, which could be described as seeing the world through rose tinted glasses. Also Rose is a family name, so it seemed appropriate.

What do you blog about? Has that changed from when you first started?

I blog about being an older mum (I had my first child at 44) , lifestyle and sewing. I took up sewing as a hobby when I had a child and I love it. I really wanted to share that joy.

Is your blog your job, your hobby or your side hustle?

Definitely just a hobby at the moment. It wouldn’t pay the bills !

What is the best thing or experience that blogging has given you?

I am actually enjoying reading other people’s experiences and finding that I’m not so alone in how I think and feel. I’ve always felt a little like my face doesn’t fit. But it seems that there are a lot of people out there who have a similar outlook, and if I hadn’t started blogging I wouldn’t have seen that.

What is your favourite thing in the whole world to write about?

I love writing about my days out with my family. We love visiting new places and I love to review how we have found the experiences.

What skills (the more unusual the better!) has blogging taught you?

Too many to name! The whole setting up of a blog was a huge learning curve. Although I am not a technophobe I am not completely up to speed with computer language. So it was a real achievement even to get started. Now I think my skills are in social media management. I love Pinterest and scheduling posts on all social media accounts. And making graphics for my blog posts.

What is your favourite post from your blog? Give us the link and tell us why it’s your favourite.

I always think that my favourite post is the one I am currently working on, or just published. I like to post about things I feel passionately about. Having said that, my recent post about coming to terms with the fact that I don’t think we are going to have another child is one of my favourites, as it is from my heart.

Have you ever been on TV or radio in your capacity as a blogger? If so, what for? If not, do you think it’s something you’d like to have a go at?

No I haven’t, but I would love to give it a whirl! A few years ago I was a backing singer for Jane McDonald, and was on the telly and radio a few times with her. I’ve also been on the radio in other capacities as a dentist and singer. It was always a fun experience.

What is your least favourite thing about blogging? There must be something you don’t like about it…

The time spent doing all the scheduling of posts. And the worrying if anyone is ever going to read your thoughts!

Do you have any advice to give to anybody out there thinking of starting a blog right now?

Just go for it. Try and think about what you are most passionate about, and build a blog about that. If you are passionate about it, there will be others out there that are too!

Where do you do most of your blogging? Do you have a home office, are you on the sofa or do you prefer to be out and about when writing posts?

I do the majority of my writing on my dining room table. Which is also where I do my sewing.

Be honest. How many unwritten posts are in your drafts right now? How many are likely to see daylight?

Only 2. Though I keep my ideas for posts in the notes section on my iPhone. There are LOADS of ideas there that just need padding out.

What are you most excited about for your blog in the last six months or so of 2019? Anything awesome in the pipeline for the summer or are we forever winging it?

I am always winging it. I tend to write most of my posts the day or two before they are published. I only schedule posts if I am going away for a few days. I am excited for all the day trips and visits that we have planned over summer though!

Finally, what is your absolute favourite thing about being a blogger?

Trying new things. I would be lying if I didn’t say that it is lovely to get products or services to review. Whether they are gifted or I have to pay for them. I also love the chance at being creative.
